Greetings Byron Basketball community,

We hope this message finds you and your family doing well and staying healthy. Please take a minute to read some important information about the upcoming BBA traveling basketball season.

To address the elephant in the room, yes, we are planning for a traveling basketball season. We absolutely want our kids on the court and are working diligently behind the scenes in collaboration with the Byron Public Schools Athletic/Activities Department to ensure we can accomplish this. The health and safety of our players, coaches and community is extremely important to us as we consider how to make this happen. In discussions with other local area basketball associations, while proceeding with caution, we are all moving forward with plans to play out a relatively normal traveling season. However, we're going to take it one step at a time and we ask for your patience and flexibility as we work through how to best do this given some challenging dynamics.

In anticipation of a fluid and delicate winter sports season, the BBA board has decided to implement a two phase approach to our BBA traveling season.

Phase 1 - November/December - The focus is primarily on getting the gyms opened and kids safely on our courts here in Byron while working on fundamentals and skill development through coach-led practice and open gyms.

  • Pods will be no larger than 25 people per court (this includes athletes and coaches)
  • Grades 4-6 will practice 2 nights a week, Monday / Thursday primarily
  • Grades 7-8 will have open gym 1 night a week

Phase 2 - January through March - The focus will be on getting teams safely playing outside competition in order to provide more dynamic and robust development experiences.

  • Pods will continue to be no larger than 25 people per court (this includes athletes and coaches)
  • Grade 4 will practice 2 nights a week, Monday / Thursday primarily and will play a maximum of 6 tournaments
  • Grades 5-6 will practice 2 nights a week, Monday / Thursday primarily and will play a maximum of  8 tournaments
  • Grades 7-8, practices will be through the school basketball program and will play a maximum of 6 tournaments

* Note: Practices will be adjusted to follow basic hygiene protocols designed to mitigate the transmission of airborne illness

** Note: RCYBA Spring Tournament, as noted in our parent handbook, counts as 2 tournaments as it’s a 2 day format and costs $490 per team to enter

Registration Reminder

Registration will remain open through October 10th for those who still haven't signed up. We reserve the right to not accept any registrations after October 10th as we will be using the registration information to plan gym space needs due to COVID pod restrictions noted above and tournament registrations. You can register your athlete using the link provided here.

Payment - Fees for the traveling season will be due by the first practice in November. We anticipate our budget is going to be very tight this year, unfortunately we're unable to accept Credit Card payments. You can pay your registration fees a few different ways.

  • Send a check to PO Box 421 Byron MN 55920
  • Send a check with your son or daughter to the first practice
  • Pay BBA via PayPal at -OR- using the email address

If you choose to use a check, please write your player(s) name and grade level in the memo line.

Team formation will be done the same as in the past, the only change is that instead of bringing all the kids into the gym at once for evaluations, we will be using a practice night to evaluate the grade levels and then will form teams according to our parent guidebook
